I have been an RN for more than 40 years.

I have held Branch Representative and/or Delegate roles for the last 20 years.

I believe reasonable workloads, decent pay and working conditions including mandated nurse and midwife to patient ratios across all health sectors, and supervision and support for students and beginning practitioners are essential for the provision of safe patient care and the survival of our professions.

We must continue to strive to ensure that nursing and midwifery management structures are maintained, that advanced practice roles for nurses and midwives are identified and developed and that only nurses/midwives deliver nursing/midwifery care.

I am proud of the recent landmark decision for the Aged Care sector won by the NSWNMA/ANMF. We must now win Ratios for NSW.

The fight to strengthen and extend Medicare, promote equity of access and to defend the rights of nurses, midwives and patients continues.
