Jill Telfer
RN, Nurse Educator - Dialysis Unit,
Tamworth Rural Referral Hospital
NSWNMA member since 1987
Current NSWNMA Branch Secretary and delegate, Tamworth Rural Referral Hospital
I’ve been nursing in public health for 42 years, mostly in rural settings. I’m a Nurse Educator in dialysis in northwest NSW, providing support to places including Armidale, Tamworth, Inverell and Moree. I see how dire it is in our rural sites and the urgent need for ratios across the State.
I’m the Tamworth Hospital branch secretary and delegate. I constantly advocate for improved staffing through Reasonable Workloads Committees and leading our 2022 Branch strikes.
I’m committed to improving patient safety and improving our working conditions. Patients, city or country, deserve the same amount of care. We need mandated nurse and midwife to patient ratios on every shift, on every ward, to deliver safe, patient centred care.
We need to be paid a real living wage, not the tokenistic wage ‘increase’ we’re being subjected to by this current government.
I supported the campaign for RNs 24/7 in Aged Care and support nurses and midwives’ rights in the private sector.
I’m committed to the preservation of Medicare and the public health system.
I stand for re-election and commit to building the power and voice of the NSWNMA.
